Golden specks and golden nuggets

Singapore is full of small specks of nature; Australia is full of beastly nuggets of nature. Singapore’s areas of natural treasures are microscopic compared to Australia’s natural areas. Never the less gold is gold, and it should be treasured no matter the size.

Singapore’s natural spaces are very beautiful, some are human made natural areas. Its virtually impossible to get lost in the wilderness in Singapore. One minute you may be walking along in the forest, next minute your shocked back into the constructed world as you see tall buildings or hear the sound of cars. On the contrary in Australia it is most certainly possible to get lost for days and days in the wilderness, with no MRT services close by!

Eight days, eight days spent in a foreign environment surrounded by buildings, people, traffic and trees. Trees that look familiar yet are not the same. I tried to come into this trip with an open mind and see Singapore without any filters in place. However this proved to be difficult as I myself have a strong connection with what I believe to be a healthy natural environment. But who is to say that my views on nature are correct? Or that they transfer to the Singapore environment?

Singapore has no natural resources.. so how do they survive you may ask!

A water treaty with Malaysia is how. Singapore rely on the importation of water from Malaysia to help supply its population of 5.4 million people. Singapore at the moment is in its final water treaty with Malaysia. This treaty only last another 48 years, so Singapore needs to make sure they are self-sufficient before this!
