Knowledge isn’t everything.

Explore Pulau Ubin by bike. | Explore cultural precincts.”

Immediately after reading our groups’ (Kara, Will, Kieryn and Myself) facilitation task I thought “What’s a Pulau Ubin?” and “Which cultural precincts do we explore?” I found it difficult to wrap my head around conducting an entire day’s worth of events in a faraway land having never even been outside the country before, it was all a little bit daunting. Naturally having no idea about the place or culture, I researched, and I learnt about the place to the point where I believed I could impart some lasting knowledge on my peers, awesome!

‘Team work divides the task and multiplies the success’

This heading best relates to how my facilitation group and I reflected about how successful we were during our facilitation day to the Singapore Botanical Gardens and the Night Safari P1030453-min

Planning

Right from the start we were a solid unit, the delegation of tasks were efficient and easy. However as the preparation time of the trip began to run out, it was evident that the end of semester work and commitments had caught up to us all.

Be Water, My Friend

Kara, Kieryn, Will and I were charged with facilitating an exploration around Pulau Ubin by bike and exploring the cultural precincts within Singapore. One of my group members taking a break

What an amazing experience! Today Ty, Lachy, Matt and I guided our group through the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Taking the time to walk through the catchment and connect with nature was a nice change of pace. Today was the groups first chance of experiencing Singapore’s wildlife in a natural environment. Traveling around in small packs , frequently snacking and sharing food I would not blame the locals for thinking the Catchment had a new species of Monkey passing through.

The day the plan went out the window…

Time. Planning. Itinerary. Location. These are all words which my group and I were all too familiar with throughout the weeks of planning our facilitation day. On Sunday however, our first day in Singapore, all these words just went out the window. Being in a new and unfamiliar country, everything we had planned took MUCH longer. It was 8am on Sunday morning when we were standing around without food for breakfast that we came to realise this. This was when we said: Goodbye itinerary! Goodbye carefully planned departure and arrival times! And lastly, goodbye to some of the locations and activities we had planned to do. But we knew this would happen right…?
