I’d like to share a quote with you that I came across whilst visiting Raffles Institution. It reads:

“Being a Singaporean is not a matter of ancestry. It is a conviction and a choice”

“Conviction and a choice” Wow. I’m sitting here so inspired by this quote and how accurately it describes my interactions with Singaporeans since I arrived over a week ago. This quote gets my adrenalin going much like when I visited Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) and saw their motto, shared by all Outward Bound centres worldwide:

“To Serve, to Strive, and to not Yield”

Congratulations! – Singapore Botanic Gardens declared World Heritage Site

A very big congratulations to our friends at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The Gardens were today declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The first for Singapore and only the third Botanic Gardens in the world.

They were very excited about the possibility when we visited the Gardens yesterday.

They are now expecting an increase in visitor numbers and the associated need to increase visitor management so the gardens can be maintained.

Curiosity won’t kill these cool cats…..

This is my idea of learning; connecting new knowledge with different bits of knowledge and life experience you already have, which then gives you a yearning to want to learn more facts, to connect the information.

We started off hearing about this quote on the morning of our first day here, appropriate as we headed out exploring the city and making connections between what we know and what we were seeing. To connect the dots between information we know and the facts we find is pivotal to making connections and learning, not only for us – but for you as readers too.
